As much as it might hurt, the time has already been spent to get you where you are now. That doesn't change what happens from here so you can either go forward toward a successful, finished sweater or toward an unsatisfying, overly large, useless waste of good yarn. If you've lost your interest in this yarn for right now, then put it aside and knit something else. Then decide if you want to reknit this sweater or use the yarn for something else. I vote to frog. So I vote frogging. Unless you aren't afraid of putting your knitting under a sewing or serging machine.
