I totally agree with you on the gift card thing, although this past Christmas was absolutely impossible to shop for my boyfriend's brother as all he really wanted was to save up money for a laptop. (And my boyfriend and I didn't want to make him think perhaps his parents had gotten him a laptop if we got him a laptop case.) So it was a gift card, just a sliver more personal than handing him cash. Where have you gone, my dear?
