Broadripple Socks in STR Lagoon and dying

Posted by – February 3, 2007

Would you believe when I was taking photos earlier I totally forgot to take ones of the stash enhancement I indulged in over the weekend? Oh well gives me something to post over the weekend;) In knitting news I did finish my grandma’s socks. I really need to quit saving stuff up and having a billion things to post. I suppose I’ll just do separate entries. Anyway on to the socks.

Project: Broadripple Socks in STR Lagoon medium weight.OP
Needles: Knit Picks Options in Sz 2
Notes: These were a fairly quick fun knit. I was shocked at how dense the STR was, it almost felt like cotton. I liked the yarn but they are not as soft as other socks I have made. However once I washed them they got much much softer. I hope that I like the lightweight better since I did sign up for the club. If you look carefully you can see that I reversed the pattern of the socks. I vastly prefer toe up socks and in my infinite wisdom stupidity I thought that meant I should reverse the stitch pattern. I charted it out to make sure it would work even. So it worked but…Oh well my grandma should love them. I actually am finding it curiously difficult to give them away. I did make the heel too narrow so they look sort of funky but they fit fantastically well. Next heel though I am planning on trying the YO technique just to see if I like it any better.

Ok on to my recent dyeing adventures. Well…You win some and you lose some right? I had my first etsy sale this week. Go me. I was kinda sad to part with purple reign but I can always make more. Anyway that and the fact that the store looks great in firefox…lets not even discuss IE at the moment sort of inspired me to get off my ass and dye. Some I liked and some I didn’t. I do not like dying the merino bare by knitpicks. It is incredibly flat compared to superwash and it just I dunno feels *limp* Part of that I suspect is the nature of superwash vs feltable but still. I like HA and Pearl so so so much better. Also I think I got so scared when dying up Purple reign that I have been using too little dye so that needs to be rectified as well. Anyway on to the pictures…

I was really going for light med and dark pink. Eh needs more dye but it would be pretty in lace I think.

This one has distinct possibilities. I like the teal and the grey, the green though isn’t quite what I had pictured.

This was actually inspired by the audiobook I was listening to. It took place in Miami and these are the colors I think of when I picture Miami. Better this than the swamp green/brown of the everglades.

What nice colors. You have a good eye for combining them. The socks are beautiful too. Looking at your pictures makes me want to go knit!
