Instead of this being in a category called ‘almost daily update’ it seems like it should be called ‘every ten days update’ but you know my life truly isn’t that exciting. Well I’m not displeased with the level of excitement but for readers its probably fairly boring. I have almost everything on my list done and except for the yard related stuff which keeps getting thwarted by weather, its not time critical. Well I suppose the last of my Christmas shopping is, but I already know what I’m getting those people I just need to sit down and order it. I’ve been hearing from Justin fairly frequently which is very nice. Always a bright, cheerful day when I get an email from him. The big Christmas party is on Saturday and yes that’s *Christmas* not holiday party. We’re having Santa and gifts somehow that screams Christmas to me. Besides its absolutely asinine to water down the holidays to giftmakwanzaka. I’ll be heading off with my pride of furry monsters to my mom’s for the holidays after that. But since she joined the 21st century got real internet access it won’t be too bad. Hell through the wonder that is VOIP I even get to take my home phone. It’s funny I promised myself no more kitchen stuff, as some of you know I have a wee problem with kitchen stuff collecting but my foreman grill bit the dust a few months back and I haven’t found the cast iron stop top one to be a valid replacement in some ways. Electric stove thy name should be hot spots. Cooks illustrated says non-stick aluminum is better than cast iron. Had I known that I wouldn’t have gotten the grill. Oh well some day when I have the glory that is gas again it will be worth having. So anyway like I was saying, for one person the countertop grills are great. Its much easier to make a nice healthy meal when its not a huge chore. So I started to want another one. Now since I had experience I knew there were a few things I wanted. It had to have removable plates, I know Cooks Ill said it was better for them to be fixed but damnit you try cleaning one of those things! I also wanted temp control, it is too easy to burn things without it. Anyway…so the day of the gift wrapping disaster (i.e.. we made no money) I happened to notice that the PX had the Cuisinart grill on sale. Like 40 dollars less than Amazon. But I resisted, I said to ‘nah I don’t need another small appliance, besides where the hell would I store it’ (you’ll understand if you’ve seen my kitchen) and ‘I have a toaster oven for meats’. Then I made myself a steak under the broiler of the toaster oven. Ugh not good. So Sunday I went to the PX to shop for Christmas presents and I, well, got one. I didn’t use it till last night and so far its everything I dreamed of. My meat was tasty with nice char marks and it cleaned up in two minutes. I’ve long wanted a food saver. So when I was at Tuesday morning I got one. Mostly I got it because its the best way to pack baked goods for shipment over to the sand box. I had seen it the other night when I went to my knitting group but I resisted and then I checked around and it was half the price of the new model (that doesn’t have any real improvements) and its the holidays and I have Christmas money to spend. So sadly I spent a good chunk of my Christmas money on the one type of item I had sworn I was going to go without. But I had gone almost an entire year without getting a fix;)
