Yarn Pron and other stuff

Posted by – April 13, 2007

First the pron, So I’ve been working on these socks and today I was off by well several stitches so I had to tink back and well lost a whole repeat. However I *love the yarn and its working up beautifully. So that’s the first pron of the week

Our next installment of pron comes from my dyepot. Well I over-dyed it but it’s still quite lovely.

I’m going to save some for next time but our last pron exhibit also comes from my dyepot. I was attempting to figure out Sundara’s overdye technique. Even if its not how she does it I adore it.

In other knitting news I continue to search for spring yarns and patterns. I found one at blue sky alpaca I will probably knit.

I was thinking calmer for this or maybe bamboo. Just depends on where I decide to be weak at. Also I found a freaking awesome freeware knitting program here. I haven’t played with it too much but it should prove useful when doing knitting math.

Progress is a funny thing

So I’ve been working on other stuff. I sure work a lot for someone without a paying job! Anyway my grand master plan of a knitting pattern resource site is going well. It’s almost done and ready for content. Hopefully by tomorrow I can start emailing people and asking them if its ok if I link them. Probably more like tuesday since I have to puzzle out the search function stuff. I want to have links and photos and have it searchable by gauge and/or weight of yarn as well as having broad catagories. I know I could spend today doing that but I would so much rather chill out and knit. So I will. While I was working on lucy this morning I had a vision of the sweater I want. I have a rough drawn out plan but I can’t draw so…I refuse to scan and post it. Anyway it is influenced by sahara and SKB but different. Maybe not different enough but its not like I’m going to sell it. I am however going to make it. My original idea was cables but now I’m thinking maybe lace instead. We’ll see what I come up with when I spend more than five minutes looking for pattern stitches. It’s funny, how knitting completely takes over your life. Maybe its my almost ocd but when I get into something I get really into it. I spend more time thinking of knitting than I do almost anything else. Thinking I mean not knitting since I am probably the least prolific knitter on the net. So progress…Well that sock for husband was finished and I’m on the cuff now so an hour of some good audio distraction(right now it’s the first HP book in honor of the new ones release) and I should be done. Lady E plods along.  I’ve got 8 tiers done out of 35+. The pattern calls for 35 but I know that my squares are smaller so I’ll have to see when I get there. I think it will be pretty nice when its done. I haven’t decided on fringe. I’m not really a flashy person but it seems a shame to have nothing. Oh well much work to do before that even becomes an issue. And then there is Lucy. Lucy is the red headed step-child of all my current WIPS. First she was on hold pending buttons. I got buttons but I’m not 100% thrilled with them. I actually found some I liked much better at an LYS but I won’t be going back there till next month so… I might call them and have them mailed. Then this morning while looking through my stitch dictionaries when I had my five minute design blitz I came across the written directions in Vogue Stitchionary vol.1 and became fairly certain I had a problem. I tried knit visualizer to see what was what and finally just realized a quick email would answer my problem. See and I realize I am moron but I have never knit from a chart before so I started off wrongly and then well easily fixed. I frogged back and will start again this time knowing what I’m doing. Cosmicpluo rocks:) She answered my question far faster than I would have expected on a weekend and managed to not laugh as she did so. Well clearly I should get back to my knitting so I can at least finish the socks! At this rate I *might* get through my sock stash this year. Who am I kidding I know I’ll end up buying more.

Which sweater is next? Cami gave me the idea for a quiz

So its sort of strange but having more wip’s seems to increase my productivity since I can switch off when I’m sick of one and still knit. Right now I’ve got the never ending bag going and the socks. How I am in love with toe up socks. They seem to go a hell of a lot faster for some reason or perhaps I’m just knitting more. In keeping with that spirit I am also going to figure out which sweater is next. Since I want to make all of them and really need help deciding PLEASE leave a comment. The sad thing is there there are actually more out there that I really want to make. One of which is my own design. But I figured these seven were enough to start with. I have four months before Husband gets home. So I figure I should be able to at least 3 sweaters by then. Help me pick!
1. Candy

candy

I’ll be doing this in black and burgundy or pink and burgundy. Bonus since Claire wants to make this too.
2. Tubey

tubey

I refuse to do stripes except maybe on the sleeves cause you know like tubby and stripes is just too offend the viewer but I like the shape and hell it might be the ONLY time I will ever knit a ‘small’

3. Red Hot

I love this color. Its pretty basic but it would be a good introduction towards finishing a sweater. It is pretty close to the sweater I just did though.

4. Picovali

picovali

Simple basic, season appropriate.

5. Granny Smith

I adore this sweater but am I ready to knit a sweater on size 3 needles?

6. Vintage Pink Cardigan

and

Also knit on three’s. Note I will not be doing this in pink but its a lovely sweater.

7. Simple Knitted Bodice

I love love love this pattern but its not out yet.
