Would I knit it again?
I suppose so. It’s not been my favorite thing to knit but it was good not paying attention knitting.

Yarn Pron and Half an FO

Posted by – April 22, 2007

So I did manage to get some dying done this week. I’ve been trying to use up my knitpicks bare for gifts since its so not my favorite yarn.

The one in the middle isn’t that accurate as its different shades of pink and red, but the other two are fairly close. The one on the left was sort of a use up old dye run but its so freaking pretty.  I also finished a sock last week that I never got around to posting. I’ll probably start the second one today.

In other news…uhh yeah I’ve been lazily working on kitty pi and Lady E since I haven’t gotten any spring/summer yarn yet. Oh and I’ve been reading way too much to actually get any knitting done.

Updaterie II

So Saturday I got a really nice but rather late birthday present. My birthday was in January. That’s ok though since I am so in love with my present. My favorite uncle got me a fantastic bag. Now I can never have enough bags! I even adore the colors since I am so into reds. It has been really grey and crappy so I’m just borrowing the photo from the store.

It’s a good size for purse junk and a book or a sock. Finding that size is so hard. Either it’s too tiny for a sock or its so huge it’s like carrying around a sack of potatoes all day. I also finished one of my toe up vine lace socks. It’s an easy pattern and a gorgeous sock. I’ll try and take a picture today.  So todayI did some dyeing and stuff its still wet otherwise I’d have pictures. Plus I want to wait till this batch is done. Anyway yesterday before SNB I went to Hobby Lobby. I wanted to see if notions were half off this week and I was kinda sorta hoping they would have cotton-ease or some flavor of cotton blend. I have some cotton but thats it for spring/summer yarns. Not really too enthused with making something and not wearing it for 6 months. So there I walked those long badly lit aisles. Trying to avoid the taint of fun fur and other nausea inducing ‘novelty’ yarns. Do you know that if possible their selection is worse than ever. They didn’t have even wool-ease! They had their in house brand of dead muppet pelts and red heart and some other stuff. They did have some non dishcloth cotton but I have some much better cotton stashed already. Now granted I don’t usually buy yarn there since I am a yarn snob but come on…the only stuff they had for garments was red heart!?!

Is yarn gluttony one of the 7 deadly sins or is it a knitting virtue?

So I have been sort of saving stuff cause I really am attempting to be a better blogger. Anyway a while back while looking at the fold, I saw what to my mind was one of the most amazing STR colorways out there. So first I called BMFA and they told me (nicely) they didn’t do special orders so I was looking around on flickr and noticed someone had what appeared to be an unused skein. So I emailed the lovely Dani at Yea, I knit and asked if I could bribe her to part with it.  She agreed and it happily got here last week. Though I do seem to be getting on a first name basis with Joann from BMFA, which I find a bit alarming;) Today I took  photographs of it and of the stash enrichment the knit happens sale afforded me.  I have to say that although I’ve read about the problems people had I got everything I ordered. Now one of the things I ordered had been mislabeled but still for 60% off approximately I’ll live with it.  Some of the Nature Wool I ordered was listed as a worsted but was in fact a chunky. Oh well I needed yarn for the fiber trends clogs anyway. I have some other stuff that came in but I’ll save that for a latter blog post. In my current knitting eh…ummm I’ve been reading alot and I did some tinking yesterday. Its the knitty chatroom you see, I find it hard to type and knit:)  Since most people read blogs for pics….Behold my Craptastic Photography! (in my defense I have improved and the light was utter shite today)

So first the lovely STR colorway Jasper

Now we have the Cherry Tree Hill in Winterberry and Northern Lights

Here is the Nature wool in different shades of purple the one on the left is the chunky that was mislabeled.

Cascade 220 in ruby and Alchemy in Scarlets Dark Secret. I got enough alchemy for another clap but I am not totally sure that’s what it will be.

And here we have the last of it, To the left is the yarn I got for thermal. It’s rowan’s cashsoft 4ply in loganberry and some Debbie bliss is uhh burgundy I guess. No clue on the debbie bliss stuff but I figure it would make a nice cardigan at some point.

Yarn Pron and other stuff

First the pron, So I’ve been working on these socks and today I was off by well several stitches so I had to tink back and well lost a whole repeat. However I *love the yarn and its working up beautifully. So that’s the first pron of the week

Our next installment of pron comes from my dyepot. Well I over-dyed it but it’s still quite lovely.

I’m going to save some for next time but our last pron exhibit also comes from my dyepot. I was attempting to figure out Sundara’s overdye technique. Even if its not how she does it I adore it.

In other knitting news I continue to search for spring yarns and patterns. I found one at blue sky alpaca I will probably knit.

I was thinking calmer for this or maybe bamboo. Just depends on where I decide to be weak at. Also I found a freaking awesome freeware knitting program here. I haven’t played with it too much but it should prove useful when doing knitting math.

Offensive Socks and Offensive Kitties

Posted by – April 12, 2007

So this morning I was getting dressed and I was about to pull on my favorite socks. As I did so I noticed a hole that had not been there the night before. I only wear my socks in the house so I didn’t see anything wrong with wearing them again. Now how did this most offensive hole appear? So I go complain a bit on the knitty chatroom and go pull out a different pair. These were a present from a friend of mine out of yarn I dyed. At this point I began noticing a pattern.Fortunately I can try and fix them since there is extra yarn. Still though perhaps I should rethink my future as a crazy cat lady?

offensive holes

Now I have three cats. However only two of them could have done this! One possible miscreant is enki. He has a well a thing for my foot. I don’t want to use the word fet*** since that will bring some unusual people to my blog. He also has been known to steal clothing to love to death.

He only looks sweet and innocent. His full name is Enkious Monstrousos. He is the primary suspect in todays crime.

The other suspect is Morgan. Although he is less destructive he loves chewing on the cords to my blinds. I have never noticed him having a thing for clothes or feet though.

Finished Wicked

So here it is my second sweater ever. I have not woven in the ends yet since I have no idea yet if it will fit my mom. Knitting a small sure makes it go much faster. Maybe I can use that to motivate myself to lose enough weight to wear a small. The photo pretty much sucks since I had to take it under artificial light hanging from a door.
Dates:
started March 21, 2007, finished April 3rd, 2007
Pattern:
Wicked by Zephyr Style
Yarn:
King Tut Cotton Color 307
Needles:
Size 6 Knitpicks Options Size: Small
Pattern Notes:
I changed the crossover rib to a plain rib because I thought it looked like crap in the cotton. Also since it was cotton and I figured it would grow with gravity I made it a tinsy bit smaller than the pattern called for. Totally justified as my mom is tiny.
Would I knit it again?
It was fast and quick and cute so yes I would. I would however make long sleeves for myself and knit it out of something other than 100% cotton. But hey using up stash is a good thing right?
