Well I finally found something to worthy of my time. I’m doing the ubiquitous branching out, in the purple alpaca/wool from nashua. its coming out fairly nicely, so far. Lace knitting though is NOT tv knitting or even SNB knitting. I’ve found this out the hard way. For every pattern repeat I end up tinking several rows. But I am learning a lot. Besides surely I get extra points for attempting lace so early in my knitting career. I should post a picture of it but I’m feeling lazy so perhaps next time or later today. I tried out a new knitting group this week at my local lys. It was me and a bunch of older ladies. What I wouldn’t give for just One person closer to my age who had something in common with me. We-ll technically there are a few. One is supposed to come to the group next week but she’s just learning to knit and one I haven’t’ met yet in person and another is Claire who is really busy. Actually in my knitting wet dreams I end up finding Skank again and she’s taken up knitting too. I did engorge my stash a bit but it was acceptable because I know what I’m making with this yarn. I got some brown sheep for felted bags (gifts) and one hank of some hand paint thats pretty close to what I used to make my MIL’s seafoam scarf. I can see I really do need to take pictures. Anyway its a glorious sunny day here so off I will go to attempt to make my scarf.
Month: January 2006
I am *such* a dork
Now I want you to realize that there is no end to how dorky I really am. Fortunately my husband finds this to be an endearing trait. Or he’d better since he married me knowing that I found sitting at home researching something or knitting to generally be far more fun than going out all gothed up to a bar. A short story to illustrate my point, the other day I was on the phone with my dad and he decided to be all clever and ask me a question he was sure I wouldn’t know the answer to. The question was ‘How was the Microwave invented?” Now of course I know the answer since I unlike his other nonexistant children like science. For the answer I point thee in the direction of google.com. Anyway getting back to how big a dork am I, I have these shoes and they are *very* special to me. I first found them before I even met my husband and didn’t get them since I was kind of broke and they were around 120 dollars. However a few years later through the glory and wonder that is the internet and more specifically fleabay I got a pair. Well I have now aquired my third pair. I would wear these shoes for the rest of my life if I could continue to find them. I have a feeling this will probably be the last pair though and that makes me sad. However will I dress like an art fag librarian if I don’t have some nice pilgrim shoes?
In other news…My kitties really miss my husband and so do I. A big part of our family is missing. *yes I realize I have replaced much of my maternal urge with my cats and I’m ok with that really* They keep wandering the house looking for him, I at least got over my instant joy of seeing the car in the driveway and thinking he was home till I remembered that he was away. Deployments really suck. I am proud of him but they are the super suck of military life. Last night I was watching good eats and Alton was trimming a tenderloin and then making this glorious steak with a brandy cream pan sauce. I had planned on making some chicken from my freezer but instantly I had to have steak. So first I went to walmart since it was the closest store that was still open, then I went to food lion and finally kroger. All three of them denied me the meaty goodness i was searching for. I finally settled on some sirloin at kroger. At this point I’m driving home and its after 10 and I realize there is no way in hell I’m going to make a feast so after about an hour and twenty minutes of hunting and three stores I ended up with burger king.
quote of the day
An animal so poor in spirit that he won’t even fight on his own behalf is already an evolutionary dead end; the best he can do for his breed is to crawl off and die, and not pass on his defective genes.
The grand master plan went FLAT.
Ever since I was a wee baby knitter… last year, I have wanted to make the "My so-called scarf". It’s one of three scarves I must make, the other two are the Multidirectional silk scarf, and the Vintage Velvet scarf from scarf style. I own the yarn for the silk one and I plan on getting the yarn for vintage velvet at some point soon since I have a fear it will be discontinued. Anyway I have tried making my so called scarf out of some mountain colors I bought and now some malabrigo. Granted both of them were fairly similar colorways (reds and burgundies) but neither one is working for me. It just doesn’t look as nice as I envisioned it. I suppose I’ll have to go manos shopping and find something a bit more dramatic for it. Anyway since I am desperate to find something to knit I tried broken rib with some brown sheep and it wasn’t working for me either. However I might make a horizontal drop stitch scarf out of it. I think it will be fairly interesting and a bit less girly than the other ones I have made.
Noro Please forgive my sin
So I finished the bag. well ok I need to attach the handles but its done. I wasn’t that thrilled with noro when I was working with it but it really felted beautifully it also got quite a bit softer. I have enough to maybe make a stripped middle section of another booga bag. I’m not going to make that my next project or anything but its possible I’ll make it as a gift some day. I still think I’ll substitute that k1c2 paintbox for things that call for noro as it is quite a bit nicer in general. I am trying to decide what I want to make next. I am very much considering doing something with my malbrigo. Or perhaps something with that alpaca I got. Though considering it will be in the 50′s alpaca might be a bit too warm for this climate;) I did get that yarn for the mag knits scarf but it cost so much money I just can’t bare the thought of screwing it up. I am fairly well decided that whatever I end up working with my next project is a scarf for me. I do wish I could find some lambs pride in pink. Then I could use up that burgundy I got ages ago. Anyway…
POST FELTING PICTURES
New WIP- the overly done booga bag.
So after finishing knithulu 2.0 last week I decided to look through the stash for a new project. I tried to get myself excited to make yet another drop stitch scarf and well lets just say it wasn’t happening. I did try though I mean I played with things a bit and got about six inches done before I realized I needed something really really new or new to me at least;) Then I remembered I had bought enough noro to make a bag. Since I wanted a new bag it seemed fate was on my side. Anyway I finished the bag part last night. Noro is well
I can’t decide if I like or hate it. I think I’ll be using k1c2 for the next time I need a noro like yarn its supposed to have less crap in it. Now all I have to do is make 6 feet of Icord. I even ran out today to get one of those things to speed up the process since doing it by hand was a total big suck. But here is the bag in all its glory. I haven’t decided what my next project will be. Maybe another bag maybe a scarf or maybe I’ll make a damn sweater.
Knithulu 2.0
So I finished my first project of the year. Knithulu. What makes me want to cry is so many people want one and I happen to think making them is something akin to nails on a blackboard. I must simplify that pattern or come up with a hand puppet version. Anyway he was a birthday/xmas gift for Steve. I still have to make one more in the very near future for another friend but I’ll worry about that closer to the time. But I am very pleased to announce knithulu 2.0.
I love the red eyes.
My Birthday or my palm is flashing red and the year of running has commenced
So today or rather yesterday at this point is my birthday. I’m 29 this year. One more year then I hope to renew through the fiery ritual of carousel. My friend Steve came up to hang out which was nice. We ventured to walmart when he got in and stocked up on frozen food. Yes I know I am a self proclaimed food nut but the last thing I wanted to do was deal with making feasts on my day of joy. Anyway…we decided to try and get through all of season one of BSG. So we watched a couple of episodes then decided sleep was in order. Saturday we finished the season about 9 pm and ran to walmart to get the next season. However we only made it through about half of it before he had to leave since he had gaming today. I also got much knitting accomplished. Come to find out they released *half* a season so now I feel rather dumb. Today I cleaned up from the podding and listened to an audio book while I worked on my latest creation. I finished the site I was working on, well the first part anyway. Just waiting on some stuff to get done before I continue it. This week I plan on starting my big project of the year which is getting everything in boxes labeled. Much as I would love to weed through things I think my husband would be distressed. He hates when I ‘clean’ him. I was also told by a third party that cleaning someone like I had before was "wrong". Please note that my husband has or rather had boxes of paper that he hadn’t opened since he packed them three moves and several years ago;) Anyway…I should go to bed since I get vastly more accomplished when I get up early in the morning than when I sleep in.
Behold the irony
Pardon me but I’m just waking up. So I’m doing my usual wake up thing which is wade through the sea of email and I come across this:
we have a cat that we can not keep anymore
she is a good one but I am having a baby
and I just do not have time to take care of her. If you
take her I have a bag of food, litter and box.
food and water dish I need it gone asap
thanks
How much time does it take to take care of a cat? And you have to wonder if someday she won’t have time to take care of the baby.
The Christmas Haul
Long ago I convinced 98% of my family to send me a check for the holidays. It does seem sort of impersonal but I can be a bit difficult to shop for since everything I tend to want is stuff you *really* want to pick out yourself. So anyway I had a bountiful plenty to go yarn shopping with. So I did:) I also had my mom buy me some yarn as my present from her. Since I did sort of put all the money in one big pot I can’t really say who got me what other than what my mom got me but….I have to do some yarn pron anyway. First and foremost I invested in a swift and ball winder. I knew I wanted a ball winder and the first shop didn’t have one but the second one did. After having something of a disaster winding some off a chair I decided to get a swift. I did not want a plastic swift. Besides the prices they wanted for the plastic ones were insane. But the Myers house weaving dept had a wooden one. Though a piece of the first one was cracked and I had to exchange but oh well:) I do lerv it beyond all belief and its fun. I love winding variegated and hand paints just to see the patterns. Anyway on to the haul
